Capital Letters are Spoiled. (Petition Against Capitalism)

By Hoor Fatima

I'm very strongly opinionated when it comes to writing English. These capital letters are the spoiled kids who need validation and extra protocol. Who do they think they are? Why do they get to be capital while everyone else is small? Every time I hit Shift, a part of me dies inside.

They're considered special? As if coming right after a period, or being the beginning of a name increases their worth. I think it's time they get a reality check. You don't (and shouldn't) get respect because of the position you were born with. You get respect because of the position you earn.

“ThE fIrSt LeTtEr Of EvErY sEnTeNcE sHoUlD bE cApItAl!”
NO, IT SHOULDN'T! The first letter of every sentence is not gifted, nor excessively rich, nor has it done you any personal good. What right does it have to receive princess treatment, and be bigger and better than everyone else?

Where are the lectures on "equality" and "justice"?! Everyone seems to forget the "everyone is equal" rule when it comes to uppercase letters. Talk about being biased. I'm a firm believer that impartiality should exist even in language. Why do capital letters get favoritism?

“ThE fIrSt LeTtEr Of EvErY pRoPeR nOuN sHoUlD bE cApItAl!”
AGAIN, NO, IT SHOULDN'T! Proper nouns will live perfectly fine without being treated like royalty. In fact, I suspect they'll thrive once the tension between lowercase and uppercase letters is resolved (after true egalitarianism is implemented). Actually, I have no issue writing the first letter of my own name small. In fact, I'll do it happily, especially if it means the bratty kids don't get what they want.

If you've made it this far—congratulations. You've survived a very emotional activist rant. Ironically, I've still used capital letters in this blog (thanks to the biased and unfair rules of English). But enough is enough. So, here's a call to action:
Petition to eliminate the use of capital letters in English. NO MORE UPPERCASE SUPREMACY! EQUAL LETTERS FOR EQUAL RIGHTS!
